During my visit to Vienna, it was suggested by several Austrian natives, importers and other visitors that we visit the Zum Schwarzen Kameel a.k.a. the Black Camel.

Zum Schwarzen Kameel is a staple in Vienna’s 1st district, a classic bar that dates back to 1618. The intimate decor and outdoor seating options draw many happy hour patrons and locals at all hours of the day – just beware the bar closes at 7pm daily and is, disappointingly, not open on Sundays.

Zum Schwarzen Kameel offers a fantastic wine list with moderate pricing options. While we were there we selected older vintages of German Rieslings (1992 Dr. Loosen/1993 Joh. Jos. Prüm) that were priced at only 75€/bottle.

Obviously, the bar also offers a fantastic variety of Austrian wines by the glass and bottle as well as a selection of beer and delectable canapes. This was a perfect spot for an afternoon glass of wine before moving on for the evening and a wonderful experience of authentic Austrian culture.

When in Vienna, definitely seek it out.
