At two sold-out events in Los Angeles in New York, Austria celebrates the success of 150 Austrian wine makers and top chefs in the US

The run on tickets for this year’s AUSTRIA UNCORKED events in Los Angles and New York, organized by the Austrian Trade Commission in New York in cooperation with the Austrian Wine Marketing Board, continued even after both events were long sold-out.

600 experts attended the trade and media events in the afternoons, 1100 came to enjoy Austrian wine and cuisine at the evening events, which took place at Beverley Hills’ luxurious SLS Hotel on May 2, and at the Tribeca Rooftop Loft in New York City on May 4th.

AUSTRIA UNCORKED 2011 presented 150 wine makers and further increased market visibility of Austrian wines in the US. The “Grüner Veltliner”, or “Gruner”, and the most characeristic among Austrian reds, the Zweigelt, prooved most popular among the audience.

Culinary highlights came from Wolfgang Puck in Los Angeles, and, among others, from Austrian restaurants Seasonal, Wallseè, and Klee Brasserie. Newcomer Heidi Riegler presented the delicious sweets produced by her very own “Vienna Cookie Factory”. Agrarmarkt Austria provided for 200 kilogramms of Austrian cheeses, Norbert Wabnig presented a special selection of his famous Cheese Store of Beverly Hills.

AUSTRIA UNCORKED coordinator Stephanie Artner was excited about the positive reception: “We are delighted to see that Austrian wine continues to occupy a special niche within the US market. More and more restaurants and hotels include Austria as an own wine region on their menus.”

For Christian Kesberg, the Austrian Trade Commissioner in New York, the popularity of AUSTRIA UNCORKED is important for different reasons: “Our wine is an important cultural asset, and we are very happy to see that market shares are increasing. Furthermore, those customers who are attracted by our wine are also an important focus group for other Austrian businesses.” (DR)
