This year’s Austria Uncorked tour made two stops: one in Toronto, ON and one in Chicago, IL, two markets that have never seen such an event before! Toronto is fortunate enough to have had some other Austrian wine events in the past, but to date, this was the biggest presentation of Austrian wine in the midwest! We’re proud and happy to say both events were amazing, expertly executed and enthusiastically attended.

We already gave you a preview on what you could expect in Toronto and now we’d like to share with you what you missed in Chicago (and if you were there, perhaps you’ll find a picture of yourself.) Check out our album on the Austrian Wine USA Facebook page and stay tuned for more photo postings.

The event featured visits from 10 winemakers, 50 wineries, and hundreds of wines ranging from Smaragd Grüner Veltliner from the Wachau, to red cuvees featuring Blaufränkisch, Zweigelt, and St Laurent, to Styrian Sauvignon Blanc – and so much more in between. For a list of producers and their wines check here: Click here for a list of participating wineries.

In addition to the exhibiting wineries, we had a special visit from the Summer of Riesling – we are happy to announce we will be a part of this fantastic country-wide celebration of Riesling this summer. (Stay tuned for exact details, but we’ll be returning to Chicago in August for more Austrian wine fun! Follow them on Twitter on @SummerRiesling too!)

In the afternoon, Austria Wine welcomes over 150 of Chicago’s top trade people to taste the wines alongside exquisite Austrian Cheeses. In the evening, over 400 consumers sipped, swirled, tasted, and nibbled on delectable bites from six of Chicago’s fine restaurants including  Austrian Bakery & Deli, Julius Meinl ChicagoLeopold ChicagoN9NE Steakhouse and ghostbarPorkchop and Vivo. Austrian cheeses and bites were also provided! Proceeds from the event will benefit a local charity project in Chicago, Common Threads, which teaches low-income children to cook wholesome and affordable meals to prevent childhood obesity.

Guests were also welcomed to participate in a raffle from which they could win signed cookbooks, a Riedel Decanter, wine, and more.

Overall, the event was a great success! Special thanks to everyone who participated and to everyone that came out to see us! Check out our Twitter feed at #AUncorked for some play-by-play accounts!
