May marked Wein Burgenland’s descent to the middle of the US visiting two markets previously untouched by the marketing body.
Minneapolis kicked off with a great dinner at HeyDay , one of the city’s top restaurants.
Menu & wines:
Apero Grüner veltliner Brut Szigeti (Winebow)
1st) Buttered Asparagus with Horseradish Cream and Grilled Parsley
“green” “buttery” “creamy) “spicy (horseradish” “smokey (from grilled green)” lemon juice is the acid
- Pinot Blanc Seeberg 2015 Prieler (Skurnik)
- Rosa Rosé 2014 Umathum (Winemonger)
2nd) Shima Aji with Cilantro, Fava Bean, and Mole
“fatty, lush (from fish) “bright herbaceous (from cilantro and fava bean” “spicy (from allspice, clove, pepper)” slight jalapenjo notes
- Grüner Veltliner Liegenfeld 2015
- Leithaberg weiß 2012 Gernot Heinrich (Winebow)
3rd) Pork Steak with Peas, Ramps, and Buttermilk
“barnyard-y (from pork” “onion/garlic (from ramp” “tart, bright (from buttermilk reduction” mint will be highlighted slightly in this
- Blaufränkisch Eisenberg 2013 Uwe Schiefer (Weygandt)
- Pannobile Nittnaus 2011 (Wildman)
4th) Anise Hyssop Parfait with Frozen Oxalis
this is basically two notes – really creamy and rich parfait and a highly acidic, herbaceous frozen granita – sorrel notes. Hyssop tastes like root beer (good stuff, real root beer, not soda – wintergreen, cherry bark, vanilla, leather, ginger)
- Furmint Beerenauslese 2013 Wenzel (Winemonger)
- Sämling Beerenauslese Zantho 2011 (vin divino)
Continuing in Minneapolis the next day to our sold out show at North Loop Wine & Spirits, attendees were delighted by the presentation by Managing Director of Wein Burgenland, Christian Zechmeister, who taught showcased wines from across Austria’s top wine growing regions.
Next stop: Denver! Another market eager to learn about Austrian wines that had, thus far, not has such a big opportunity to do so. Many even traveled quite a few hours!
The event, taking place at Springhill Suites Denver Downtown wine tasting room was the perfect place for the sold-out crowd. Zechmeister once again led the crowd through a tasting of the wine growing regions of Austria which were well received.
Finishing up the tour with a stop at Baker Wine & Spirits in Denver, attendees were able to sample a handful of wine and enjoy them alongside one-on-one educational seminars by Zechmeister.
We are delighted that Wein Burgenland could show these two great cities more of the wines they already know and love and in a more in-depth way than they previously had experienced.
We can’t wait to be back!
