We’re pleased to announce we’re heading to TexSom for another year!
Join us at the Grand Tasting on Monday evening, August 13th, for a taste of four great wines from Austria.
Winery Christoph Hoch: NV Österreich Pet Nat „Kalkspitz“
Christoph Hoch took responsibility for the winery in 2013 and is supported by his family. He has chosen a new and uncompromising path in which he seeks to express the uniqueness of the Hollenburg community. He has studied the terroir of his habitat systematically and compared them to other wine growing regions, in particular the unique geological formation «Hollenburger conglomerate». It is his aim to create exceptional Grüner Veltliner and Riesling with the unique stamp of Hollenburg. To achieve this he employs the traditional methods of his ancestors in winegrowing and winemaking and is converting to biodynamic cultivation. His stated goal is, « to produce inimitable wines with good ageing potential; wines that aren’t just ‘good’, but rather wines that inspire emotion!«
Winery Wellanschitz: 2016 Burgenland Grüner Veltliner „Kolfok Alte Reben“
The family-owned estate is located in the heart of Burgenland, very close to the Hungarian border. This is the center of red-wine-growing in Austria. The region is also called «Blaufränkisch-land» all their vineyards are located at the foothills of the Ödenburger Gebirge, influenced by the Pannonian climate. Nevertheless every vineyard has its own microclimate and its particularities. Their aim is to find these particular differences again in their wines and to incorporate this typicality of the individual single vineyard into every wine. They are very happy, that they are able to show that this is possible and that their wines develop their own character according to its single vineyard.
Winery Sattlerhof: 2015 Südsteiermark Sauvignon Blanc Ried Kranachberg “GSTK”
Perfect physiologically ripe grapes are quintessential for Willi Sattler. He manages three of the best vineyard sites of Styria: Sernauberg, Pfarrweingarten (monopole) and Kranachberg. The steep vineyards as well as other topographic characters are the cornerstone for aromatic and complex Sauvignon Blancs and Morillons, the region’s synonym for Chardonnay. The «Steirische Klassik» STK° wines are bottled after a short time on the fine lees and feature maximum fruitiness and freshness. The more mature wines are aged separately for each vineyard. These premium wines are made exclusively from grapes grown in vineyards that boast outstanding soil and a particularly favorable microclimate. The classification system distinguishes between «1. STK Lage» (Sernauberg) and «Gr. STK Lage» (Kranachberg)
Winery Müller-Grossmann: 2017 Kremstal DAC Riesling Ried Steiner Point
The wine-growing estate Müller-Grossmann is situated in Furth-Palt, close to the famous monastery Göttweig and belongs to the Austrian wine-growing area «Kremstal». Helma Müller-Grossmann manages 10 hectares of vineyards in this region. The main target of the wine-grower is the production of nature-oriented and high-quality products. The roots for this are given in the »workshop under a free sky« – in the vineyards, which are worked gently and in consideration of climate, floor and region. The wines get the fine finishing in the cellar and attain her individuality through this – the handwriting of the wine-grower.
We look forward to raising a glass with you there!
